The fantasy of The Grapes offered me solace in my journey through grief. Presented as a fairytale, the works reflect on our
yearning for a return to childhood when faced with catastrophe and ultimately, the wonder of imagination and its ability to heal.

ON PALETTE KNIVES...
One day, while I was deep in the midst of a series of intricately detailed nature paintings, a wise studio mate gave me a challenge. She said, "take a weekend off from your tiny brushes. Go on vacation with your paints and canvas. Bring only a palette knife. See what happens."
These paintings are seedlings born of that challenge...
They represent a fascination with edges, planes, compartments, and structure. As in much of my work, I strive to capture my vision of energies occupying space, sometimes autonomously and sometimes in deep community, the colors yearning for a space of their own while also needing to get along with others. I see the works as a conversation of color, texture, and coexistence, one that I'd never have privy to, had it not been for a break from my brushes and a weekend away with a palette knife.
